What is this medicine used for?
For non-insulin-dependent diabetes (type 2) in adults, when dietary measures and exercise alone are not sufficient to control blood glucose.
How much and how often should you use this medicine?
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
The daily dose of Gliclazide 30mg may vary between 1-4 tablets (i.e. from 30 to 120 mg) taken orally, once daily. It is recommended that the tablet be taken at breakfast. If a dose is forgotten, there must be no increase in the dose taken the next day.
Contraindications
Gliclazide should not be used in diabetes requiring treatment with insulin or insulin dependent diabetes (Type 1), ketoacidosis, diabetic precoma and treatment with micronazole
Warning and Precautions
Precautions:
Monitoring of Diabetic State: As with other antidiabetic therapies, patients must be under close medical supervision.
Dietary Restrictions: Treatment with gliclazide does not obviate the necessity for maintaining standard dietary regulations.
Patient Awareness: Comprehensive instructions must be given to the patients about the nature of the disease and what must be done to detect and prevent complications.
Warnings:
Acute Complications such as Severe Trauma, Fever, Infection or Surgery: These acute complications provoke additional metabolic stress which accentuates the predisposition to hypoglycemia and ketoss. Patients presenting with such conditions may .
